This place is so amazing I’m not dedicating an β€˜Ear Bud Q Tip’ to it, I’m dedicating a whole blog to it!

When your food writer Jeremy, a Masters of Gastronomy lecturer suggests catching up at Spirit House Yandina, you know you are in for an adventure.

I was excited as I had been here before for dinner, but I was looking forward to trying the lunch menu.

β€œSet in lush tropical gardens nestled around a tranquil pond, bubbling waterfalls, tinkling wind chimes, the sounds of nature β€” the Spirit House is a delight for all senses. Award winning contemporary Asian food, friendly staff and enthusiastic chefs have made the Spirit House a destination for lovers of all things Asian”

THE MENU

Not your traditional ala carte kinda place. The fixed price menu starts at $105 and will take around 2.5 hours.

We chose the β€œprix fixe” menu. β€œSimply choose from the sections, sit back & relax in our little oasis enjoying some great food, fine wine and good company”.

We ate:
🍞 Flat Bread with Malaysian satay butter.
Miang Kham; Grilled whitefish, peanuts, ginger, lime & betel leaf.
πŸ…Cherry Tomatoes Som Tum dressing & peanuts.
Green Curry of Beef Short Rib; Tamarind glaze, grilled Eggplant.

πŸ₯£ Coconut Soup β€œTom Kha”; Cold smoked salmon, nam prik pao.
Crispy ”Humpty Doo” Barramundi; (signature dish) Chilli Tamarind sauce

πŸ₯ Mango Sticky Rice β€œEton Mess”; Mango sorbet, meringue, crystallised pandan

THE SERVICE:

The service at Spirit House was exactly what one would expect from a fine dining establishment. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive, friendly, and ensured our needs were met throughout the meal.

THE FOOD:

Everything was top notch delicious. Which is to be expected as their head chef, tom Hitchcock, just won Chef of the Year!

There is clearly a huge job and knowledge behind every dish. Now I’m not a food writer, so I left my review to yum, yum, yum. Let’s see what Jeremy has to say more eloquently.

THE AMBIENCE:

  • Tranquil and relaxing – I have never described a restaurant atmosphere as that before. The zen gardens and shimmering pond provided a breathtaking backdrop. It is easy to get captivated by the view. The well-spaced tables allowed us to enjoy our meal in peace, without being disturbed by the conversations of other diners. It was a place where one could spend hours simply admiring the surroundings.
  • Groups of over 18 people are catered for in their own private room.
  • The restaurant is mostly fully booked, but the tables are well spaced and while larger groups are around, their conversations don’t travel. Conversations are usually conducted in hushed tones thanks to the tranquil surroundings.
  • Larger groups are normally seated away from smaller groups, and if you mention you are hard of hearing, they will seat you away from large groups.
  • The quietest seats in the house are in the colonnade between the wings. This is for couples and small groups, who are seated overlooking the pond.
  • The only place to avoid if sound sensitive would be near the entrance and the path to the toilets or register, as there is a stream of guests in these places.

STAFFS HOT TIP

β€œWe would best suggest that guests let us know at the time of their booking should they require quiet or less populated tables. Given the nature of our flexible seating plans, any special requests would be better catered for, on an individual basis”.

Note: some of the images are taken from their socials, because their photos do the food more justice than mine.
