The restaurant has a wide selection of internationally inspired dishes, the highlight being the fresh black mussel pots. There is the option to vary with prawns, calamari or a combination but once you have tried the black mussel there is no going back. They can cater for vegans, gluten intolerant and people who have an allergy to seafood. The owner is an ex architect, so designing this restaurant with ambience in mind was very important. Here is a 5 minute Q & A with the owner, Mary-Jane How long has SheShells been open? 5.5 years. What inspired you to open? SheShells is a dream come true. We have always felt that SA has the best seafood, dairy and unique wines in Australia if not the world. The restaurant has a wide selection of internationally inspired dishes, the highlight being the fresh black mussel pots. We can cater for vegans, gluten intolerant and people who have an allergy to seafood. Do you have any signature dishes? Tuna sashimi, SheShells seafood basket with local fresh fish. What is your personal favourite dish and why? All the dishes are my favourite or I wouldn’t have them on the menu. They are all equally as good as each other. Who are your local suppliers? We have several – fresh fish is sourced predominately from the Fish Factory and Parrisso and the other general items from Galipo and PFD and Coles. Is there any furniture / decorations in your venue that have a story or special meaning for you? The lite tables are from my previous business as a builder/designer and are made up of Tbeams and have sand and shells with a glass top and is popular with my customers. What efforts have you made to create this ambient space? This was very important to me and I designed the walls to be sound absorbing with cork and the other walls have small corrugated iron and the ceilings are acoustic foam so the surfaces absorb the noise making it very comfortable for my customers. Describe your restaurant in 3 words? Friendly Pleasant Family atmosphere. Best compliment you’ve ever received about SheShells? Everyone who visits us has such wonderful comments and how they feel at home and as if they were part of my family with home cooked meals. Your staff seem happy and helpful, what’s the ‘behind the scenes’ secret? They are all so wonderful and patient. They are my special Team and Nathan is like my son and we have many mother son type conversations and discussions. Technical Info Max number of seated patrons inside? 54 When are your peak times and quietest times? 6:00pm till 7:30pm peak, all other times are ok.
