Umbertos Restaurant offers excellent food and a relaxing atmosphere, which was a surprise considering the location in this outback town or around 2000 people. The hotel claims to be the only international standard underground hotel.

The restaurant is well above ground although does not offer views of Coober Pedy. This may be delibrate as the town is pretty rough and ready!

However, the food and drink was top class. Staff were well informed and experienced. We had interesting chats with staff and people on neighbouring tables. The tables were far away from each other is what appears to be an oversized restaurant.

It was a bit pricey, but it was our long overdue holiday (thanks to COVID restrictions).

Overall an unusual “high-end” experience that we recommend.
