Our group of three were keen to have a chat so The Mayfair coffee shop and restaurant (The Den) was worth the short detour. As it was a Monday on a rainy, cold day we found the Den empty.

Our lunches consisted of Pasta, Caesar salad and a Veggie starter. All were tasty except I was disappointed as the pasta was much colder than it should have been.

Coffees, beer and a glass of wine later we left satisfied with the ambiance, the food and of course the ease of conversation.

In summary, a 5 star hotel off Rundle Mall with top decor and pleasant staff.

We popped downstairs at the Mayfair Hotel looking for a snack with coffees. We hoped for a haven from the biz of the CBD.

The Den and the area close to the grand piano were occupied by less than ten people. A pianist was playing classics to everyone’s delight.

We ordered two flat whites,
– whipped ricotta, hot honey and toasted focaccia.
– Barossa olives in oil with citrus peel.

Very tasty and just perfectly presented.

The Den was a little noisy but with elegant music. There were plenty of helpful staff. We found the haven we wanted. Missions accomplished.

Delicious food and attentive service in the classy Mayfair Hotel. Plush, classy interior, and the drinks are great.

EAR BUD Q TIP
Now I dined in a Sat night, peak times, 3/4 full and had no issues hearing my friends. The tables are well spaced and the music is at a soft comfortable level.

The staff say weekends are hit and miss, some saturdays are conversation friendly, the next week can be lively depending on the group.

HOT TIP
AVOID!!!!! Yes AVOID when there is a high tea on. What is pictured as a classy, distinguished event turns very loud, very quickly, when the guests get on the bubbles.

On the weekends there is a lovely, gentle piano playing from 1-3pm, but that is also the time the high teas are on…… You have been warned…..

Midweek is almost always ambient, that was there recommendation.

My wife and I dropped in for a coffee while in town, as the Mayfair Hotel is just off the west end of Rundle Mall.

No food, as we had dinner planned elsewhere. There were only two other customers in the well appointed “Den” area and the restuarants were empty of course.

Coffees were slightly dearer than your standard, cuppa but you are paying for an elegant environment, newspapers and planty of service if needed.
