We dined here a few months ago and I gave it a favorable review. Because of this we chose to return as an easy pre Festival theatre option. Unfortunately things have changed or we struck a bad night. The place was crowded with a pre wedding party and it was noisy. We could not carry on a conversation without yelling. We ordered the same flathead as last time but it was disappointing this time. Wondered if the fish was frozen. The chips were soggy and not hot. The rosé was awful and the beer was flat. We will be finding another place to dine when next we go to festival Theatre.

A large group gathered drinking prior to a wedding and some small groups were dining in the same space. The singer/ guitarist added to the noise level making it difficult to hear each other at our table. We have been here on another occasion when there were just a few diners and it was far more comfortable.

We chose this place as a good option for a quick meal before a show at the Dunstan Playhouse. It was a good decision. Due to the soft furnishings and carpets it was very quiet. We were spoilt for service. We all chose the Flat head fish & chips which was lovely. I wasn’t sure about the rosé on offer so the waitress brought a taste for me. We will go there again for convenience, service and location.

My partner and I had a voucher for the intercontinental and an accompanying voucher to use for food and drink. We spent this having a drink (or two) at the Atrium and were quite happy with the cocktails and atmosphere. It was difficult to get a server’s attention from the couch where we were seated but in terms of hearing, had no issues. There was a live performer singing at the other end of the restaurant and this was difficult to fight through when paying the bill so I would try and be seated closer to the entrance for an easier time. Otherwise, generally quite happy!

We started our date night here last night and was very impressed. It says on their website ‘the Atrium Lounge offers a comfortable, opulent atmosphere to enjoy relaxed conversation with family, friends and colleagues. With an extensive beverage list, exceptional’. This is not false advertising people, they provide this.

The menu:
We had pre dinner drinks here, so I can attest they have a very good selection of wine, whiskey, and gin. It was the perfect ambience to have our pre dinner drinks. Although we didn’t dine in, we did eyeball what others were eating and it looked amazing, the looks on diners faces replicated that.

The service:
Plenty of staff were available so we weren’t waiting for our drinks for long. They provided a relaxed atmosphere and were attentive, but not intrusive.

Ambience:
It was fully booked being a Friday night, plenty of couples starting their date night (like us) with a drink or diner, there were also several groups having (what I assume) was after work drinks, but I didn’t struggle to hear the conversation.

Overall the noise level was low, but it did have peaks into the moderate range when staff were busy shaking up cocktails (which I didn’t mind as I felt it added to the ambience, not detracted from it). It is carpeted, has round backed chairs, so the furnishings do absorb some of the noise so it made for pleasant conversation. Here was an acoustic guitarist in the corner who was very talented and playing some relaxing tunes, but the amplifier was quite loud so we did struggle to hear each other when he was playing, but again – we didn’t mind as it was appropriate music for the feel of the place.
