This was our first visit to Alchemist Kitchen. Brighton’s Jetty Rd is a very busy eating strip these days with more than 10 restaurants and cafes.

Surprisingly our pick was almost empty, unlike nearby places which worried me initially. However, AC is firstly an evening dinner venue. The interior decor is upmarket and quite unlike the nearby casual eating places.

Our group of four chose:

1) Oven Baked Shak-shuka – Eggs, tomato and harissa sugo, caraway, onions, eggplant and bell peppers served with focaccia
2) Sweet Potato Fritters with crushed avocado, poached egg and smoked salmon.
3) Tuscan Pork Pizza – Pork and Fennel Mince, Cheese blend, Smoked Mozzarella, Broccolini and Red Onion (to share).

All dishes were very good, well-presented. They offer a Big Breakfast menu all day which is a plus. Also good coffees.

My guess is that is it much noiser in the evening as today’s diners totalled only 10.
