Access is may be tricky for some due to the climb up the from stairs. The main road through Clarendon is rarely busy. As it was a perfect early summer evening, we took advanatge of the view of the hills and listing to the cookatoos by sitting outside.

Sadly, the vegetarian menu is limited. However, the damper with olive oil / balsamic is exceptional.
The others ordered a steak sandwich, chicken breast and pasta. Service was a bit slow, but no one seemed to bother except me.

Little Creatures Hazy IPA hit the spot.

An historic old pub in a country setting.

We only stopped in for a drink.

Inside, quiet bar, fireplace, lots of spots to sit and chat, soft music.
Outside was lovely in the sun, but the intermittent road noise of the weekend drivers revving up the hill was quite bothersome.

We’ve not been back to the 100+ year old character pub, The Royal Oak, for years. It was long overdue. Clarendon must have one of the steepest main streets in South Australia and is filled with heritage buildings.

Tuesday evening was very quiet. We sat inside by outselves for the first 40 minutes until a young family arrived for dinner. In retrospect, it would have been warmer and quieter out front roadside.

I ordered a draft Hazy IPA (Priority no 1) and Bitter, Lime and Lemonade.

Forod wise and as veggie options were limited, I went for
    – Fesh out of the oven, Damper with dipping olive oil+sweet balsamic & the best dukka (home-made and chunky) that I have every eaten.
    – Grilled Hallumi salad
    – My wife ordered schnitzel with pepper sauce.

I would go back the damper alone. Something I never thought I’d say!

Weekend may have an increased noise level, but the small back room has never been ‘lively’ in our many years here. (I should note, that when we first entered the dining room, I asked for the music to be turned down a touch which did the job for me).
