About

✅ Background music at a low volume,
✅ No background music or music-free zones,
✅ Speakers placed away from dining areas,
✅ Seating sections away from the bar, kitchen, or loud entertainment areas.,
✅ Low-traffic seating: quiet areas away from busy paths like the entrance, restrooms, or serving stations.,
✅ Small, intimate setting (low occupancy),
✅ Well spaced tables, Low-noise kitchen or food prep area away from diners,
✅ Minimal use of noisy equipment (blenders, coffee machines, etc.),
✅ Outdoor dining areas,
✅ Staggered seating: Spread out seating arrangements to prevent large groups from congregating in one area, minimizing the buildup of noise.

If a function is on these things do affect the ambience:

📢 Hard, reflective surfaces (e.g., tiled floors, glass walls),
📢 Lack of sound-absorbing materials (e.g., no carpets or curtains),
📢 High ceilings that cause echo or sound bouncing,
📢 Open-plan seating without sound barriers,
📢 Large communal tables contributing to noise.

NOTE: if visiting call ahead to see if a function is on. It is a function centre that holds very large groups, when a function is on the foyer also gets lively as guests pass through.

📢 Last Friday of the month is ‘Unwined Uncovered’, 4-7pm with free tastings, canapes and live music = lively then.

We had a fantastic afternoon here. Strongly recommend you use the RAA special, $55 for 2 tastings ($20 each) and a platter for 2.

Each person gets a $20 wine card so you can choose your wine from the120 wines available for tasting, all dispensed from state-of-the-art Enomatic servers.

It is a function centre, it gets lively when a function is on, and the guests share the same toilets so weekends may not be the best time to visit.

Outside under umbrellas (weather permitting), no noise, backs onto botanic gardens is the spot that almost guarantees a relaxed vibe, but as long as there is no function on – inside is also perfection.

I chose the Wine Bar for lunch as the National Wine Centre is next door to the Botanic Gardens and the Rose Garden. Hopefully, the roses were in their prime, due in part to Adelaide being the host of the International Rose & Garden Expo. Thankfully, it worked out well!

    Our four manin courses were:

    1) Butternut, smoked polenta, caponata, pickles – well presented and a beautiful flavour. Possibly the best vegan meal I have ever eaten.
    2) Mushrooms, thyme, rio vista lemon oil, open lasange. A more substantial vegan dish which was also appealling.
    3) Chicken maryland, wattle seed dahl with paratha bread, raita. Looked good but did not taste it.
    4) Braised duck leg, coconut lemon myrtle rice, bok choy, broth, crispy shallot.

Service was excellent. Noise was low as there were no adjacent meeting rooms in use.

In summary, I liked the atmosphere, food and the opportunity to learn more about wine.

    Saturday night: 6.30pm

Thanking my luck that we were successful in winning Great State Experience Voucher, and we spent it here at the National Wine Centre Saturday night.

I’d never been before, and it was a real treat. Check out the menu for the ‘Feed Me’ Experience: 4 delicious courses paired with Australian Wines.

The service was what you would expect at a place like this, friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable.

Next time I’ll make the most of the state-of-the-art Enomatic servers. The write up says, ‘you’ll be able to sample from a range of 120 different wines, across 55 regions – all dispensed from our state-of-the-art Enomatic servers. It’s technology that keeps the wine in optimum condition ready for you to enjoy and appreciate”

The short of it….. it is like an ice cream shop[ but for wine lovers – every flavour you think of!
    1. Select which of the 120 wines you want to try
    2. Choose the size you fill your glass with: a taste / ½ glass / full glass,
    3. Swipe your enomatic card
    4. Enjoy.

    !!! HOT TIP !!!

The Wined Bar seating is in the main thoroughfare between the front entrance and the botanic gardens, so it is a walkthrough area. So whilst we were eating our dinner, we did have guests from one of the functions at the back of the premises walking past us regularly. In addition, a wedding celebration was being held in the front function room. So whenever the doors were opened, a lot of noise spilled into the foyer.

These interruptions were brief and didn’t interfere with our evening, but I can see how some people would be distracted by it. If that is you, request a seat outside at the entrance to the Botanic Gardens.

Overall, the noise level was low, and it was effortless to have a conversation across the table with hubby. The food was excellent, I plan to come back and dine in again, and the adult child in me wants to serve themselves with the wine version of an ice cream shop or wine lovers vending machine. The only issue is…… which flavour to try next 😉
