Meow Cafe Glen Osmond Road, Parkside: A Hidden Gem for Cat Lovers and Coffee

Just as the name suggests, this quaint cafe combines the comforting joys of a café with the endearing presence of cats. As a food and animal lover myself, I was astonished that such a unique haven had eluded my radar until now.

    What sets Meow Café apart?
    1. Family owned and run by husband and wife
    2. Great coffee
    3. It is also a cat adoption site
    4. It is ambient but you need to pick the right time.

Now I’ll break down each of these points as is so much to say about this place.

    1. **A Family Affair:** At the heart of Meow Café’s charm is its family-owned dynamic. Previously halted by the pandemic, this charming spot underwent a heartwarming transformation as Patrick and his wife (whose name escapes me, gah) took the reigns. While Patrick manages the front of the house and the legalities of running a cat cafe, his talented wife masterfully crafts the culinary delights.

    2. **Sip and Savour:** My two visits to Meow Café were accompanied by coffee indulgence. Yet, it’s not just the coffee that beckons the taste buds. The menu boasts delights like fried ice cream, tiramisu, spring rolls, and dim sims.

    3. **Whiskered Charms and Adoptions:** Meow Café takes on a distinct role as a feline adoption haven. Upon entry, Patrick acquaints you with a brief but essential spiel, guided by legal mandates. In short, order your food, wash your hands, maximum of 6 people in the cat room for a max of 20 minutes, then wash your hands after petting the cats. Cats of all personalities grace the room, each seeking a forever home. The café partners with RSPCA volunteers, ensuring the cats are nurtured and cared for. Yet, be forewarned—school holidays usher in a frenzy of activity, leading to potentially lengthy waits for a cuddle session.

    4. **A Tranquil Escape:** You’ll see from the images that this place has the potential to be loud…… really loud. But on my two visits, it was a peaceful respite. Weds and Thurs are the days to visit, as Patrick warned that every other day there are excited youngsters cuddling cats and not being quiet about their enthusiasm (as you would expect).

Weds and Thurs are the days that people with diverse needs, including those with wheelchairs or are non verbal, visit as Meow café offers solace as they engage in the therapeutic act of petting the feline residents. These regular visitors can not tolerate loud noises but they are comfortable here as they always come on a weds or thurs. Both my visits were on these days, and both my visits were very ambient at that time.

In my conversation with Patrick, I told him what the Ambient Menu is hoping to achieve and he adamantly emphasized the importance of AVOIDING weekends and school holidays. These peak times witness a surge of patrons, often leading to long queues extending down the street. With only Patrick and his wife at the helm, these bustling hours necessitate the hiring of extra hands to maintain the café’s food orders. He also assured me it is NOT ambient, AT ALL at those times.
I found this to be a very pleasant café that lured me back for another visit, but I also acknowledge you have to get your timing right or it will be quite lively. I enjoyed sitting in the cat room and watching them be themselves, it was quite therapeutic in the middle of a busy day.

    p.s. And I’m a dog person 🐶
