Tonight was a return visit to this French Bistro style restaurant within the Chancellor Hotel.
First impressions where that not much had changed since our last visit. However, it was slightly better lit, much more popular with diners plus the breakfast and lunch menus were more extensive.

Our meals were exceptionally good at a reasonable price. Delicious sauces were mopped up with good crusty bread ordered on the side.

BOEUF BOURGUIGNON – Beef cheek ragout simmered in red wine served with sauteed seasonal vegetables
CREPE AUX CHAMPIGNONS – Baked mushroom crepe in a truffle white sauce served with a green salad
POULET SUPREME – Chicken breast served on a bed of pilaf rice, leek and topped with mushroom creamy sauce
CANARD A L’ORANGE – Confit duck leg, carrot puree, charred brocolini and orange duck sauce

Since our last visit, Clement has won awards. It is deserved A la prochaine mes amis!

It was time to try this newish French resturant housed within the Chancellor Hotel. We had a show at the Dunstan Theatre, an easy walk down to North Terrace.

There were already 10 or so diners at this spacious, airy restaurant. High ceilings, but unfortunately not with enough lighting. We were shown to a table in a corner near a window. All curtains were closed. We quickly asked for another table with stronger lighting.

Maison Clement has a menu typical of a good quality French bistro. Not too long but with all the classics including TARTARE DE BOEUF, ESCARGOTS A LA BOURGUIGNONNE , BOEUF BOURGUIGNON, CONFIT DUCK LEG, CREME BRULEE, ILE FLOTTANTE.

There was a good and inexpensive wine list too. Even French Martini!

There is a sensible flat price for each course. None are in the expensive, pretentious food category.

We picked only main courses of BOEUF BOURGUIGNON and BAKED CAMEMBERT. Both were well made and show a good French trained chef.

In summary, the food was excellent, the venue a little cold / dark and the staff helpful and friendly.

Next time it will be for lunch on a warm summer’s day.

There are so many French restaurants to choose from in Adelaide now and we’re slowly working through them. This one’s from @maisonclement59 on Currie Street.

● Escargot – pan fried with mushrooms
● French Onion Soup (it’s a must!)
● Poulet Grand Mere – chicken breast in a speck, onion, mushroom chicken jus with peas and bany potatoes
● Beouf Bourguignon – sinfully rich and tender

They also do a 3 course deal for $49pp but we were so full after our mains we didn’t get to dessert this time. Would’ve loved to try their crepes or lemon tart!

It’s quite a big open space with very high ceilings so background noise is very minimal.
