I made a unexpected visit to Islander as the person I was visiting in Goolwa took me for lunch!

First impressions were of a seaside (marina), airy and light-filled space. The decor is white and light wood, which enhances the feeling of space.

As you might expect, the menu had a heavy focus on seafood with all the standard ones included in at least one format. I ordered the smaller, standard fish & chips with small salad, which was as good as you can get. Portions were ideal for an ‘older person’, although I doubt my 6’5″ son would be happy.

An interesting menu changed most evenings:
Monday & Tuesday – Japanese
Wednesday & Thursday – Cajun & Creole
Friday & Saturday – Spanish
Sunday – Mediterranean

If I ever come again I hope it is a Thursday evening so I can sample the jambalya mixed seafood. It looks delecious but I did not want my brain to take over from my stomach.

Recommended.

Not one, but THREE people advised me to check this place out while we were staying at Victor, and I was not disappointed.

We sat inside, and although it was fully booked, I didn’t miss any of the conversation.

What can I say about the food 🤤. Friday’s, they have a Spanish special and I had the Seafood Paella. If that was my last meal, I would have died happy, it was YUM.

The boys had the Southern Fried Chicken burger and there was silence at the table, as all 4 of us were devouring our meals.

Local wine list, reasonably priced, and was served by friendly, attentive, but non intrusive staff. The boys played on the playground outside while we waited for the food, but not for long, the food came out pretty quick – even though fully booked.

Although they have their standard menu, they also have daily specials.
Monday & Tuesday – Japanese
Wednesday & Thursday – Cajun & Creole

The manager I spoke to did say they get some complaints about the noise. This surprised me as I didn’t miss anything, and I struggle more than the average person in background noise.

The outside eating area would be divine on a summers evening. If you struggle in noise, ask to be seated outside (if weather permits) or in the carpeted dining area (where we were seated).

One of the people who recommended this place mentioned to call ahead and ask if they have a large table / function on as it can get rowdy if that happens – but I would recommend doing that for any venue. Large tables require people to raise their voice to be heard over other talkers, and that increases the volume throughout the venue in any place as the other tables nearby also have to shout to overcome the one louder table…….
