Dokeo is an unpretentious wine bar and café. As soon as I stepped inside, I was greeted with warm and friendly service. The barista behind the counter was not only knowledgeable but also eager to share the background of the coffee beans they source.

I admire their commitment to supporting the producers by directly obtaining the beans from the farms themselves. This dedication extends to their wine selection as well, where they prioritize smaller wineries and the incredible flavours they offer.

The atmosphere at Dokeo is simply delightful. There is an abundance of seating throughout the establishment, ensuring that finding a cozy spot is never a challenge.

But it’s not just the coffee and wine that make Dokeo special; it’s the people behind it. The owners are deeply committed to ethical sourcing of their coffee and actively working to remove barriers for small winemakers entering the market. They have created a space that exudes warmth and invites you to stay awhile. I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the lovely time out on my lunch break I spent there.

On this occasion, I enjoyed a coffee with a hazelnut and caramel brownie. The brownie gooey, with a chewy coating of caramel – it was perfect!

They source their pastries from Prove Patisserie and offer a selection of delectable lunchtime toasties. Nature’s Basket provides their delectable vegan, gluten free and dietary friendly treats!

As the day turns into evening, the wine bar comes to life, featuring snacks from local producers that perfectly complement the wines on offer.

What truly sets Dokeo apart is its commitment to creating a wine experience free from snobbery. The owners want this to be a place where people can comfortably ask questions without feeling intimidated. They believe that at the end of the day, wine is just grape juice and should be enjoyed with a touch of lightheartedness.

As for ambience, I noticed the younger people who like that sensory input gravitate to the front with it’s open plan layout and wooden floorboards. The more mature patrons naturally were drawn to the rear of the place with its soft flooring, well spaced tables, and booth type furniture (pictured).

So, whether you’re a coffee lover seeking the perfect brew or a wine enthusiast looking for a relaxed and unpretentious spot, Dokeo is the place to be. With its friendly service, excellent food, and an ambient atmosphere, it promises to be a memorable experience.
