For the first time, Mum, Dad and our two sons went to Ayres House for Xmas Lunch. We checked out the venue months before to try to select the quietest room. The library was easily the best choice for ambiance.

Ayres House is a special venue with many different rooms and must have welcomed close to 200 people for the 12.30pm to 4.00pm lunch period. This is an expensive way to avoid cooking and clearing up!

Three courses and a drinks package for four people in the library which was mainly couples chatting quietly. Larger rooms had large tables which seemed to be livelier (especially after 3 hours drink package)

Service was excellent. Plenty of attentive staff. However – the food – disappointing.

We prewarned Ayres House that I was a vegetarian. However, my meal seemed to be an afterthought. No menu, and staff did not know what I was to be served. My starter and main course were disappointing and mostly roastor deep fried veggies. My desert was the same as the other diners and was excellent.

Our sons said that their choices (steak or chicken) were ‘average’.

The limited drink selection (Premium lager, GSM, Grenache, Sav Blanc) was very good. So we had a few too many perhaps.

Perhaps the kitchen was overworked but for $250 each, I had hoped for better.
