A friend recommended that we eat here. Not sure when she went or what she ate but our experience was quite different.

We ordered:
– Shallot Tart with salad and sourdough
– Croque Madame with salad.

The problems
1) The Shallot Tart had been reheated by microwave so had no crust, dough-like texture and flat as a pancake.
2) The Jambon in the Croque Madame was very salty. Due to excessive fat and salt my wife left much of it.
3) The Croque Madame appeared to have used two slices of cheap supermarket bread instead of a baguette.
4) Salads were uninteresting and had a fairly tasteless dressing.

The chef was definetly not French and has no feel for that style of food. The single French woman staff member was apologetic. (Perhaps she is a backpacker?)

I won’t be wasting my time and money here again.

ACCESS:
On arrival, despite the venue being on street level, I was caught out with two stairs, making access poor. Two stairs lead into the venue, so I was unable to enter in my electric wheelchair, due to the venue not owning a wheelchair ramp. At the suggestion of the staff, I reluctantly had to leave the chair outside, and hope it was safe! (Fortunately it was!)

There were accessible bathrooms.

VENUE:
The venue was beautifully ambient, and classical, with high ceilings, and opulent fixtures. Low noise, so those with sensory difficulties will have no problem here! Decor was minimalistic, yet warm. A downstairs cellar housed a vast collection of ‘vin.’

FOOD/BEVERAGE OPTIONS:
I’m no wine conossieur, by any means, but the Domaine de Chatillon Jacquère Savoie. was delicious. A Fresh, and easy to drink drop, with a lemony bite, and hints of green apple.

A Francophiles oasis, with such dishes as Boulabaisse, escargot, duck, and pate on the menu.

On this occasion, I couldn’t help be drawn into the escargot gratin. 6 plump snails, in a gratin coating, and swimming in a rich cheesy bechamel. A fresh heirloom tomato salad, with goats cheese, and smoked almonds complimented the dish. My friends on the night had pan roast duck, with a chocolate truffle sauce, and barramundi (on the specials that day), with baby peas and roasted almonds. All of us were very impressed with our meals. A nougat parfait was shared by my friends, as I had a liquer coffee, topped with rich, thickened cream. A perfect way to finish the meal!

STAFF:
Staff were inviting, and were happy for us to stay late, even though they had packed up.

A very enjoyable experience, and evening, though not very access friendly.
