Septimus House of Cheese and Wine offers a sophisticated yet relaxed experience for wine and cheese lovers. The owner, Ian, created this venue to focus on curated wine and cheese pairings, specially designed to captivate the palates of cheese and wine enthusiasts – but also caters to people who aren’t aficionados but want to learn or enjoy their pairings. It is also affordable, not snobbby, and we thoroughly enjoyed our wine and cheese pairing which did not break the bank.

Housed in the historic Adelaide Fruit and Produce Exchange, the venue blends old-world charm with modern elegance—Tasmanian oak cabinetry, lilac walls, and green marble benchtops create a cozy yet refined atmosphere.

Septimus excels in many ways. The low-key background music and soft furnishings upstairs help keep noise levels manageable, making it easy to enjoy an unhurried conversation over a glass of wine. The two-level layout provides ample space, with low capacity reducing crowd noise. With its focus on fine wine and cheese pairings, the venue attracts a clientele that appreciates a more relaxed, conversational setting rather than a bustling bar environment.

The wine selection is impressive, ensuring there’s something for every palate. Cheese lovers will appreciate the rotating menu of seven cheeses paired with seven wines, thoughtfully curated for a harmonious experience.

For diners who appreciate a relaxed conversation over fine wine and cheese, Septimus House of Cheese and Wine is an excellent choice. As part of their liquor licence in a residential area, they can’t crank up the music, but Ian wouldn’t anyway as he knows you can’t enjoy the delicate flavours if with excessive noise levels.

For those seeking a venue where great wine, excellent cheese, and easy conversation come together seamlessly, Septimus is well worth a visit. I can’t wait for our next date night so we can visit again!

As they just opened, there are no regular patterns (yet) for an Ear Bud Q Tip, but based on the low capacity and gentle ambience, visiting before peak times on the weekend will allow you enjoy everything this beautiful venue has to offer.
