I had the pleasure of having my work show here (lucky me right).

We ate:
The summer Mediterranean feast
Marinated olives
Assorted dips with freshly cooked pita bread
Sagaki Haloumi: Grilled Cyprus-style cheese
Garides Souvlaki: Char-grilled prawns in a mild chilli, herb & garlic marinade Kefetedes: Traditional beef meat balls KROKETTES Zucchini and cheese croquettes
Kalamari Tiganito: Lightly fried calamari PAITHAKIA Char-grilled, marinated lamb cutlets
Kota Souvlaki: Skewered, char-grilled fillets of marinated chicken
Yia Yias Patades: Hand cut Greek-style chips with house seasoning
Salata: An authentic Greek salad of cucumber, tomato, feta cheese and Kalamata olives, drizzled with a lemon, herb and olive oil dressing
Loukoumathes with cherry & baklava ice-cream

The Greek has several function rooms, the intention of this is to create small and intimate dining experiences, perfect for group events or a more intimate experience. We were tucked away into the glass room (which is good, our group gets very ‘lively’)

The decor, the homely feel, the picture frames and the natural light made for a great place to catch up with friends. I also loved that each area had its own vibe and look.

Pros:
They have made an effort to be acoustically friendly.
Acoustic paneling is under the seats in the function rooms
The ‘cork’ room has been set up this way especially to dampen some of the sound.
They have also broken up the space quite well with lots of nooks and crannies to try and make each area more private.
The addition of plant life also breaks up the noise AND they also ensure larger groups are seated in the separate areas to minimize disruption (at no extra charge to them).
The Long room can seat up to 30 diners for a banquet.
The small room can fit 8 guests
The glass room can fit up to 18 guests (with your own temperature and music volume control)

Cons: Greek restaurants are traditionally more lively, it is part of the experience, that is to be expected. Amazing food, a good wine list, floor to ceiling glass and concrete floors = a reverberant setting which can make conversation difficult. But know that the food and service is worth it. This place is busy for a reason.

STAFF TIPS
They have tried to be acoustically friendly, but also want the lively vibe to shine though in this place, and it does.

The manager said Friday and Saturday nights are always lively, if sound sensitive avoid those times.
Tues – thurs are more conversation friendly for both lunch and dinner
Friday evening and Saturday all day are more lively
If weather permits and you want a more quiet spot there are lots of tables to choose from, or you can sit outside.

HOT TIP
Don’t forget to try the Galaktoboureko. I took one home take away as I was so full after my meal, and I came back the next day to get another one.

What a delight to share delicious meze in a room covered in interesting historical photos and artefacts.

The Melizano Dolmathes was so good we ordered it twice. The other 3 starter sized meals were
whitebait with dip,
salty and garlicky pita bread (perfect for the after effects of 2 beers too many the night before) and
Loukinika pork sausages.

Friendly waiters and good company.
No piped music and a quiet restaurant.

We will return.

It was unusual to arrive to an empty restaurant at 5-30pm, then leave at 8-45pm when it was empty once again! During the interim, it was almost full of an older group of diners, who had lots of interesting conversations, ate well, and departed homewards for an early night (I assume…).

Our table of three, kept talking much longer than anyone else!

The Greek on Halifax is well known, yet I had my first ever visit due to an invite from a friend of Greek heritage. I’m glad I went, as the atmosphere was great for a chat, no background music (hurrah!) and attentive table service.

My vegetarian moussaka was perfectly good, but like many other veggie moussaka before it, fails to match the offering from Eros on Rundle St.

My friends are meat eaters and seemed to enjoy the meals.

I’ll be back soon for lunch, so will report to AM.

Really noicy inside. The food is excellent but its very difficult to hear a conversation. I wouldn’t recommend unless you can sit outside.

Beautiful food – modern Greek. It was a very busy Saturday night but the 4 of us could talk quite easily and normally. The service was excellent – quick, knowledgeable, and friendly. We have been quite a few times and it has always been good. There is a large outdoor seating area which is nice when the weather is good.
