About

The deck is the best spot to sit due to:

✅ No background music or music-free zones

✅ Speakers placed away from dining areas

✅ Well spaced tables

✅ Quiet floors (e.g., carpet, cork)

✅ Quiet designated areas (e.g., for conversation or relaxation)

✅ Separate rooms for larger groups or events

✅ Outdoor seating in a low-noise environment

✅ Small, intimate setting (low occupancy)

✅ Low-noise kitchen or food prep area away from diners

✅ Minimal use of noisy equipment (blenders, coffee machines, etc.)

STAFF HOT TIP

If you’re sensitive to noise, request to sit on the deck if weather permits. It is enclosed if the weather gets cold, but the background noise level inside and outside is dramatically different.

If you dine in the front bar, there is also an enclosed balcony (weather permitting) or an overlook. This is away from the main bar, but can get lively when full due to the glass windows

The staff here are wonderful and really do abide by their sign as you enter: Yummy food and great service ahead!

I was seated on the deck, but while there was a large group at the end, the blinds and carpet seem to dampen the noise so it was easy to tune in to a conversation partner.

I couldn’t hear the howling wind or rain outside either.

Definitely a good schnitzel venue – I had the beef and it was tender!

Last night we treated ourselves to dinner at the Lady Bay Hotel, and although the food and service were as good as always, it was quite a different vibe from usual.

Not because of their ill-doing, but you could see the toll 2021 had since our last visit. The restaurant space is enormous, and rather than reduce to 25% and keep the general area, they petitioned off most of the restaurant, so the 25% seating was legally spaced. Still, it didn’t give you the sensation of being completely isolated from the rest of the other diners.

NYE was another blow to the restaurant. It was a hot day, lots of people staying locally, and lots of golfers still drinking at the 19th hole, so this was their chance to make a little come back. Then at 8pm, a blackout hit the region….. no power = no food or service, estimated rescheduled switch-on was 12.45am. So what was supposed to be a good night for them was another blow thanks to no fault of their own.

So, that being said, if you are at Normanville, please come down and support this place. The view is mesmerizing. You can really get lost in it.

Ambience: even though at 25% capacity, we were safely away from the next table, but didn’t feel like there was a crevasse between us. The background noise was the same as last time we were here, low enough to be aware of the other diners but not intruded by them. The carpet definitely assists in absorbing some of the noise.

Food: check out the stringy, stretchy cheese on our herb and garlic bread (we requested cheese). Nom nom nom

And as seems to be the theme on our trip, arancini balls again. They tasted as good as they looked.

I then devoured the salmon, the skin was perfectly crispy and seasoned just right, and the bok choy also seasoned perfectly. I usually stay away from Bok Choy as if you turn away from it at the wrong time it gets overdone, but this was crispy, tasty, and felt healthy after indulging (possibly too much) the last few days.

!!! EAR BUD Q TIP !!! When we’re back to total capacity, if you’re sensitive to noise, request to sit on the deck if weather permits. It is enclosed if the weather gets cold, but the background noise level inside and outside was dramatically different.

If you dine in the front bar, there is also an enclosed balcony (weather permitting) or an overlook. This is away from the main bar, so it is sheltered from the golfers celebrating (or commiserating) on the 19th hole.

We look forward to coming back again next time we are staying on the Fleurieu, and hopefully, by then, restrictions will have lifted and allow you to do what you do best again 😉

Can not critique the service from the friendly staff.

We were sitting by the window so the sound escaped past us. Although my sound meter recorded a ‘lively’ level I rarely had to ask for repeats, even with the restaurant fully booked. So I rated it as low as I didn’t struggle to hear my family oposite.

Only reason they got 3 stars on food were steaks were a little overcooked and chewy on both (and again, German hubby, very critical of how his meat is cooked), but our sons (who is not fussy) said his snitty was also.
